Commercial Construction From Start to Finish

Why You Need to Outsource the Design and Creation of Your New High-Street Shop

If you plan to be an independent shop owner and have identified a niche product line that should sell like hotcakes, you'll be excited at the prospect. However, as you are spending a lot of time on the product itself and talking with manufacturers and financiers, you may not have too much time to think about the actual shop space itself. Can you outsource this to a specialist organisation, and can you trust them to come up with the best solution?

Horses for Courses

In many respects, it is best to turn this part of your project over to a third party, who is an expert in this area. After all, you may have a really cool product and are sure that you can sell it, but if you cannot attract customers into your shop in the first place, that may be a moot point.

In this case, you will need to find an experienced fit-out contractor. They will listen attentively to what you are planning and make sure that they fully understand your vision before they get to work.

Detailed Work

Much will depend on the actual product itself, of course, but a company with this type of experience will be able to draw on past ideas and come up with a workable solution. They will take the available space and design a floor plan, complete with individual product stations, accent lighting, appropriate flooring, payment points, changing rooms, central displays and a variety of other features.

Your supervising contractor will then put all of this work into a software program and use CAD technology to develop three-dimensional models. Once you sign off on these plans, the contractor will then help you to get the necessary planning permissions in place and seek agreement from your landlord (if applicable).

Finally, they'll draw up the budget and estimate the timeline to complete the work, so you know exactly where you are before things get underway.

Oversight

The fit-out contractor may well need to bring in other specialists as subcontractors to the project. They will supervise these parties throughout, while they oversee the whole project and ensure that it is in finished in accordance with the masterplan.

Remember, there are only so many hours in the day, and you will need most of them to help you prepare for your eventual launch. You are best advised to outsource the design and creation of the shop space to a shopfitting contractor so they can take care of this headache for you.
